Holy Cow! It's almost September!

I can't believe the month is almost over. It's been quite an, um, exciting month. In fact, it's been so long and so exciting, that I'm not quite sure where to start.

First of all, I need to say thank you. Unfortunately, I don't exactly know who to thank. You see, during all of the craziness of the move, my hubby received a RAOK that was sent to me in California while I was in Arizona. Thinking that we'd have our stuff moved pretty quickly (see the next paragraph), he packed it up. Unfortunately, we are just now unpacking and we can't find the RAOK. So... I want to thank whoever it was that was nice enough to send me a RAOK, but I don't actually know who it is. We know that the gift is hiding somewhere in our stuff, so we're sure that we'll find it at some point. But I didn't want the person who sent it to think that I'm rude and purposely ignoring them. So, thank you and I'm sorry!

As I alluded to above...

If you're in the Bay area and planning to move, let me tell you about our experience with Homestead Moving Systems. One of the co-owners came out to our place to see what we would be moving and give us an estimate. The guy seemed really nice and gave us a huge discount. The selling point, however, was when he said they would deliver our stuff in four to six days, sooner if they didn't have any other moves lined up. Well... they not only didn't deliver our stuff in four to six days, they weren't even going to to give us a delivery date until a week after they had already picked up our stuff. Eventually we were given an actual date, but no one would return our calls or apologize for what was happening. Anyhoo, long story short (for once), I won't be giving these guys my name to use as a reference.

Onto a totally different topic, I got my hair cut last night and I have to tell you about my hair stylist. When I walked into the salon last week to ask about whether they could match up my hair color, one of the stylists had her back to me. As she turned around, I realized it was actually a guy. Now, I've lived in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas. A transvestite doesn't surprise me. However, I wasn't entirely sure if this was a man trying to be a woman ("she") or if this was a really effeminate man that just happened to dress similarly to a woman ("he"). When I went in to get my haircut last night, I was still trying to figure this out and I wasn't sure which pronoun to use (and there's only so many creative ways you can keep using someone's first name). At one point in the haircut, as I'm still trying to use my deductive skills to figure it out (i.e. when this person's cell phone rang, it has a cat's meow for a ring - I'm not sure what the heck that tells you), we were listening to the DJ's on the radio. They had just played 'Talkin Bout My Generation' and one DJ asked the other DJ what song they would call the song of today's generation. The other DJ mentioned the song that goes something about 'somebody told me that you had a boyfriend that looks like my girlfriend.' At this, the stylist says, "You got that right! Girls looking like boys and vice versa." Are you kidding me??? (In case you're dying to know, I'm pretty sure "she" is the correct pronoun.)

I have some great patron stories from the law library that I'd love to tell, but I'm paranoid that these people would somehow discover my blog and sue me or something. (I told you that I'm paranoid) Eventually I'll have to find a way to tell some of them, 'cause it's killing me not to!

And on a completely random note... I've started taking the bus to work. It's a bus for commuters that work in the city, so it's filled to the brim with a bunch of government workers (I'll give you a moment to picture the stylish and trendy people on this bus). Anyhow, I'm listening to my iPod on my way home today and "I Want Candy" starts playing (you know - the song by Bow Wow Wow?). I'm one of those people that has no shame when listening to the radio in my car and I'll start singing and dancing when I'm driving. When this song came on in the bus, I was torn between making a fool of myself or suppressing it. I ended up suppressing it, but can you imagine the look I would have gotten from the guy sitting next to me?

Busted!

My blog was discovered by a co-worker today (Hi Liz!). She was doing a general blog search on our law library and found me. How random, huh? Liz and I got to talking about blogs and I mentioned that I'm interested in starting a librarian/library-related blog. I know Lolly is thinking about doing the same thing (unless she's already launched it and I completely missed the news). The tough part is that there are a ton of library blogs out in blogland and most of them aren't extremely interesting. I'm trying to figure out how I can be interesting and stand out from the pack. One thought is that I'd concentrate on the reference and "information" side of librarianship - the organization of information, finding information, info literacy, etc. I know there are a bunch of librarian knitters out there. Whaddaya think?

Anyhoo... I've got my hubby here by my side (at long freakin' last!). We still don't have our belongings yet, and we're not exactly sure when we'll have them. Cross your fingers that we'll get our stuff sooner than later, because it's starting to get a little cramped in my parents' house. I'm starting to get the subtle hint that the folks are ready for me to be moving along (you know, packed bags sitting outside the house, those kinds of hints).

In the meantime, I'm just working and enjoying the cool weather. Don't believe me? We've been in the high 90's over the last couple of days because of rain. Now, normal people in most parts of the world would think that high 90's is scorchingly hot. But for Arizonans (which I can now call myself again), these temps are chilly. Brrrr! (Ok - I'm stretching it just a bit). It really is freezing, however, in my office. It's so cold that I have to bring a heavy sweater into work with me. I look like a freak walking through the Phoenix streets on my way to work in a sleeveless blouse carrying a heavy sweater.

For those who are wondering, by the way, I've managed to avoid anymore blonde moments at my new job since my massive printing job that I did a few weeks ago.

On a totally different topic... has anyone else discovered these things call "warm delights?" (Ahem, get your mind out of the gutter. ) They're these dessert kits that make a single serving dessert. All they need is a little bit of water and a quick nuke in the microwave. They are sooooo good! As a matter of fact, I think I'm gonna go make a brownie delight right now. Yum!

Keys are in hand

Now I just need my hubby and my belongings. Scratch that... I'll settle for just my hubby!
